• The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team begins the 2023 regular-season schedule with a trip to East Lansing, Mich. Head coach Jimmy Walker and the Falcons will face nationally-ranked Michigan State University on Sunday (Aug. 20), with first touch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium.

FUN FALCON FACTS
• The Falcons return 16 letterwinners, including eight starters, from last season's club. The 2022 team went 9-5-5 overall and 6-2-3 in the MAC, placing third in the 12-team conference.
• BGSU topped Western Michigan, 2-0, in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 MAC Tournament, then battled Ball State to a 1-1 draw in the semifinals before the Cardinals advanced via penalty kicks.
• The Falcons lose seven letterwinners from last year's squad, including the 2022 MAC Offensive Player of the Year, Kennedy White, and defender Mackenzie Reuber, who joined White on the All-MAC First Team. Jasmijn Dijsselhof also departed to play professionally in her native country, The Netherlands.
• The returning players combined to score 17 of the Falcons' 32 goals last season. Four of BGSU's top-five scorers are back, including Brynn Gardner and Maya Dean. Gardner had 19 points to place second on the Falcons. She scored six goals and added a team-leading seven assists en route to earning MAC All-Freshman-Team accolades.
• Dean had 16 points on five goals and six assists, and was named to the All-MAC First Team along with earning United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors. Lacee Bethea and Alaina Uncapher each had six points in 2022.
• In goal, Lili Berg returns after starting all 19 contests a year ago. She had 74 saves, seven shutouts and a goals-against average of just 0.87. Berg has started all 48 of BGSU's matches during her first three seasons with the program.
TOUGH CROWD
• Three of BGSU's six non-conference opponents are ranked in the United Soccer Coaches preseason top-25 poll. Sunday's opponent, Michigan State, is ranked 17th in the nation.
• The Falcons begin the month of September, and end the non-league slate, with back-to-back matches vs. Pittsburgh and Notre Dame. The Panthers are ranked 14th in the country in the initial United Soccer Coaches poll, while the Fighting Irish are ranked third in the nation.
• In the first Top Drawer Soccer poll of the season, Notre Dame is ranked seventh, with Pitt 15th and MSU 19th.
THE OPPONENT
• Michigan State opens the 2023 season with a Thursday (Aug. 17) match against Cincinnati, before hosting the Falcons three days later. The Spartans are coming off of arguably the most successful season in program history, as the 2022 club went 17-3-3 overall and 9-0-1 in Big Ten Conference play. The '22 Spartans won the first Big Ten regular-season title in program history. MSU advanced to the conference tournament title game and matched the program's best NCAA Tournament finish, advancing to the second round. A total of 16 players from that team return for head coach Jeff Hosler and his staff.
THE SERIES
• BGSU trails Michigan State, 18-1-3, in the all-time series, and the Spartans captured last year's meeting, with a 2-0 win at Cochrane Stadium (Aug. 18, 2022). The Falcons' last trip to East Lansing resulted in a 1-1 tie, as Maya Dean scored late in regulation (Sept. 2, 2021). BG's lone series win came in August of 1999 at Cochrane. The Falcons are 1-10-0 at home, 0-7-3 on the road and 0-1-0 in neutral-site matches vs. MSU through the years.
UP NEXT
• Following the MSU contest, the Falcons will return to the road, taking on Cincinnati next Thursday (Aug. 24). That contest will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Gettler Stadium.
• Then, BGSU will begin the home portion of the schedule, facing Loyola Chicago on Sunday, Aug. 27. First touch is set for 1:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium.
