BGSU Volleyball Celebrates Start Of 2023 Campaign With Second Annual Dream Big Event
August 07, 2023 | Volleyball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team hosted their second annual Dream Big with BGSU Volleyball event on Sunday (Aug. 6). The team welcomed fans to the Stroh Center for an afternoon that included a recap of the 2023 BGVB European Tour, special remarks from alumna Isabelle Marciniak and an auction, kicking off the 2023 campaign for the Falcons.
The afternoon festivities began with an on-court Chalk Talk, led by head coach Danijela Tomic. On the main court of the Stroh, Tomic and the Falcons demonstrated proper serving technique, walking fans through the team's practice routine before inviting fans to try it for themselves from behind the service line. Following the Chalk Talk, complete with a few fan aces, those in attendance watched a recap video of the 2023 BGVB European Tour, a trip that was financed through donations, largely from last year's first Dream Big event.
After the video played above the court, the event transitioned to Schmidthorst Heritage Hall for the remainder of the afternoon. Once all were in Schmidthorst Heritage Hall, lunch was served before speeches began. Associate Head Coach Alex DelPiombo began with welcoming remarks and words of thanks to those involved in the team's success and the event's planning before introducing keynote speaker, Isabelle Marcinak.
Marciniak, 2019 alumna of the program, spoke on the importance of not only BGSU Volleyball but the BGSU community, and the impact both have had on her as a player and a person. Since graduating, Marciniak has played three seasons of professional volleyball, two in Germany and one in Denmark. Marciniak has continued to be a leader on the court, collecting numerous individual and team accolades over her three-year professional career.
Tomic followed Marcniak's speech and touched on the value of the program's fans and the connective tissue that bonds the team with its support. Tomic reinforced the vision for BGVB and emphasized the importance of giving to the program, setting up a live auction run by Van Wright. The afternoon concluded with remarks from Director of Athletics Derek van der Merwe as well as revealing the winners of the silent auction.
The Falcons will begin the 2023 season on Saturday, Aug. 19 with an exhibition against Gannon at 1 p.m. The regular season will start for the Orange and Brown on Aug. 25 with three matches at the NKU Tournament, taking on ETSU, Ohio State and Northern Kentucky. The Falcons will then return home to the Stroh Center for the Hampton Inn Invitational, including the home opener against 2022 NCAA Tournament participant Loyola Chicago (Aug. 31) as well as matches against Texas A&M (Sept. 1) and another 2022 NCAA Tournament participant in Wright State (Sept. 2).
