Hovey, Marcon Earn MAC East Weekly Honors

Hovey Named MAC East Offensive Player Of The Week, Marcon Named MAC East Defensive Player Of The Week
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the MAC Players of the Week Monday afternoon (Sept. 25). Of those named, Bowling Green's Lauryn Hovey and Benedetta Marcon were named following the opening weekend of MAC play. Hovey was named the MAC East Offensive Player of the Week while Marcon collected the MAC East Defensive Player of the Week honor. This is the fourth time the Falcons have received weekly awards this season. This is the first recognition for each this season. For Hovey, this is her third Offensive Player of the Week recognition of her career, earning two last year.
Hovey was the catalyst for a BGSU attack that registered a .283 hitting percentage over the weekend. Hovey landed 19 kills in both matches against Northern Illinois, leading the Falcons both nights. She recorded a .371 hitting percentage in the first match followed by a .333 mark in the second, combining for just 11 errors over her 77 attacks for a .351 cumulative attack percentage. In the first match, Hovey added seven block assists and four digs before tallying 10 digs in the second match for her second double-double of the season.
Marcon stepped into the libero role for the Falcons for the first time this past week and put together a career weekend. Marcon began by registering 24 digs in the four-set match on Thursday, not only a career-high, but the highest total by a Falcon this season. She followed it up with a team-high 15 on Friday, including a career-high seven digs. Marcon was also perfect in serve receive during the two matches on 31 receptions.

The Falcons will continue the MAC portion of the season next week with their first conference road series. BGSU will be hitting the road to Kalamazoo, facing Western Michigan on Thursday and Friday (Sept. 28-29) with both matches scheduled for 6 p.m. starts.
