Weilbacher and Brzoska Shine for Gymnastics Against NIU
January 13, 2024 | Gymnastics
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons fell in the MAC opener to Northern Illinois, 194.050-193.000, as Kathryn Weilbacher won the all-around, vault and floor, while Elise Brzoska took the beam win. The meet was contested at the Stroh Center on Saturday afternoon.
Weilbacher scored a 39.225 in the all-around for the second week in a row. She also scored 9.850 on vault and 9.825 on floor. Brzoska tallied a 9.800 on beam.
Inside the Scoresheet
• Love Akpan had a career-high 9.800 on vault and tied for No. 2 in the meet.
• Akpan also had a career-best 9.625 on floor.
• Weilbacher won the AA for the second week in a row and for the third time in her career.
• Brzoska tied her career high on beam with a 9.800.
From the Locker Room
"I thought we had a great start on vault. I saw a lot of improvement this week. They looked a little more settled in the competition and was great to see them get going there. Kathryn got the win on vault. Bars was such a shame because we were doing pretty well, and then Izzy [Rivelli], who tends to come up with that big score in the end, had a dangerous fall. We had the option for her to finish out the routine, but her safety is number one. We obviously take that score. We made some progress on beam. Floor was a big step forward from last week. We still have some work to do there." – Kerrie Turner, head gymnastics coach
