Dunaway Was Named First-Team All-State In 2023
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball program and head coach Danijela Tomic announced the signing of Marin Dunaway on Tuesday morning (Jan. 16). Dunaway, a 6-foot outside hitter from Pittsburgh, Pa., will join the program as a second-generation Falcon with her father, Mark, playing football for BGSU.
"We are thrilled to welcome Marin to BGSU Volleyball!" said Tomic. "As a program that values character, athleticism, and competitiveness, Marin is a perfect fit. She possesses all the attributes necessary to develop into an excellent collegiate outside hitter. We are excited to see Marin's growth and contributions to our program's future successes."
Dunaway comes to the Falcons from North Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. where she was a three-time letterwinner for volleyball. Over her three seasons, she paced the Tigers to a combined record of 62-3, winning at least 20 matches each season on the way to three consecutive PIAA State Championships as well as WPIAL Championships in 2021 and 2023. Individually, Dunaway was named First-Team All-State, First-Team All-Section and First-Team All-WPIAL in 2023. She was named to the 2022 AVCA Phenom list as well as the 2021 and 2022 JVA watchlists. Dunaway also competed for the Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Association, being a two-time captain.
In addition to volleyball, Dunaway competed in the high jump and triple jump for track and was named a scholar-athlete from 2020-2024. She also comes from an athletic family. In addition to her father, Mark, who played football for BGSU, her grandfather, Charles Dunaway, played football and tennis for Slippery Rock. Two of her uncles also competed at high levels of athletics with Matthew Dunaway playing football for the United States Naval Academy and Jake Cuffman being drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 14th round of the 2003 MLB Draft.
"Choosing to play volleyball at Bowling Green State University was not only the right choice, but was an easy one to make," said Dunaway. "I felt an immediate connection with my future teammates and coaches, and just knew BG was where I belong. I loved the campus, the facilities and everyone I met was so welcoming. I can't wait to compete alongside these talented athletes and continue the success this program has worked so hard to achieve. I'm very proud and excited to be a falcon."
