MILESTONE WATCH: AMY ACCUMULATES ASSISTS
• Junior Amy Velasco reached a career milestone in the Ohio game (Feb. 7), dishing out the 300th assist of her career in the Falcons' 69-52 win. Velasco became just the 11th player in school history to reach the 300-assist plateau.
• Then, three days later (Feb. 10), Velasco handed out seven more assists, moving past Judit Lendvay (304 assists from 1989-93) into 10th place on the BGSU career assists list. Velasco's next target is ninth-place Cathy Koch, who had 347 assists from 1988-92.
• Velasco currently ranks seventh in BGSU history in assists per game, with 3.36. The complete lists of both career assists and assists per game can be found on page 7 of these notes.
MILESTONE WATCH II: SHARPS SHOOTING FOR 1,000
• Morgan Sharps had a team-high 28 points in the Troy game, and is now just 27 points away from reaching the 1,000-point mark for her career. Sharps will enter the Toledo contest with a career total of 973 points.
• Sharps scored 222 points in 38 career games at Xavier, and since transferring to BGSU she has scored a total of 751 points in 68 contests, an average of 11.0 points per game as a Falcon.
WELCOME!
• BGSU coach Fred Chmiel has announced the addition of Kyla Smith to the roster. Smith, a senior, comes to the varsity program from the BGSU club team. A native of Blacklick, Ohio, the guard helped Gahanna Lincoln H.S. to a 20-7 overall record and a regional semifinal appearance in her senior season of 2019-20.
LAST TIME OUT: SHARPS TIES A SCHOOL RECORD VS. WOMEN OF TROY
• Morgan Sharps tied a school record last Saturday (Feb. 10), but the Falcons fell, 88-78, to Troy in the MAC/Sun Belt Challenge at the Stroh Center.
• Sharps made eight three-point field goals, tying the school single-game record, en route to 28 points for the Falcons. Erika Porter had 20 points, going 8-of-9 from the field, while Amy Velasco added 18 points and seven assists for the hosts.
• The Trojans (13-10 [9-3 Sun Belt]) got 28 points from Ja'Mia Hollings, with Tai'Sheka Porchia and Nia Daniel adding 17 and 15, respectively.
• The game featured no fewer than 12 ties and 14 lead changes, and it was a 60-60 contest after three quarters. An Olivia Hill free throw gave the Falcons the lead early in the fourth period, but the Trojans went on a 6-0 run, beginning with back-to-back buckets by Shaulana Wagner, and the visitors never trailed again.
• A three-pointer by Sharps – her eighth of the game – cut the BG deficit to three points midway through the quarter, but Daniel answered with a triple at the other end, and a pair of Hollings hoops enabled the Trojans to extend the lead to double digits for the first time in the game.
• In addition to the Falcons' three double-digit scorers, Paige Kohler had seven points along with seven assists, with Hill scoring five points. Taya Ellis, one of BGSU's three available players off the bench, led the Falcons with nine rebounds.
SHARPS-SHOOTING FALCON: MORGAN TIES A SCHOOL RECORD
• Morgan Sharps, as we literally just mentioned, made eight three-point field goals vs. Troy, tying the BGSU single-game record.
• Sharps had made seven triples twice in her BGSU career, hitting a then career-high seven treys at Southern Indiana last season, then repeating that feat against No. 1 South Carolina earlier this season.
• Sharps is one of just two Falcons (joining Madisen Parker) with three career games of seven or more three-point field goals made.

PORTER'S PERCENTAGE PACES THE MAC
• Erika Porter continued a stretch of torrid shooting by going 6-for-8 from the floor against Ohio. Porter leads the MAC in field-goal percentage in conference games, having made 66.3% of her shots vs. league foes.
• Then, the Falcons stepped outside of MAC play for one final time, and Porter went 8-of-9 from the field vs. Troy. Over the last nine games, Porter has gone 54-of-73 (74.0%) from the floor.
• Overall, Porter is shooting 64.7% in 2023-24, having made 101 of her 156 shots. That percentage would rank her sixth in the nation, but she falls just shy of the NCAA's minimum requirements (NCAA minimum is 5.00 field goals made per game, and Porter currently has 4.59 FGM/game).
BE READY WHEN YOUR NAME IS CALLED
• It's safe to say the Falcons have battled some adversity this season. Entering the Toledo game, BGSU has lost an estimated 72 player-games to injury or illness. No fewer than 10 different Falcons have been unavailable for at least one game this year.
After just 16 games this season, the Falcons had utilized six different starting-lineup combinations. That came after BGSU employed a total of five different lineups during all of last year (38 games).
• Nine different players have started at least one game in 2023-24 to date, after a total of seven different Falcons were in the starting lineup last season.
SATURDAY'S OPPONENT
• Toledo is 18-4 this season, and the Rockets are tied for first place in the MAC with a 10-1 conference record. UT is riding a six-game winning streak, including a 72-57 win over UL Monroe last weekend. The Rockets are 9-1 at home, 7-3 on the road and 2-0 in neutral-site games this season to date. In MAC action, UT is 5-0 at home and 5-1 in hostile environments.
• Individually, Sophia Wiard and Quinesha Lockett are averaging 15.5 and 15.3 ppg, respectively, while seven of their teammates have between 5.2 and 8.4 ppg.
• Head coach Tricia Cullop welcomed back 11 letterwinners, including all five starters, from a 2022-23 team that finished 29-5 overall and 16-2 in conference action.
THE BATTLE OF I-75
• The Falcons lead Toledo, 45-42, in the all-time series, but the Rockets have captured the last three meetings. UT captured an 82-70 victory two weeks ago (Feb. 3), in this season's first matchup in the Glass City. In the teams' last encounter inside the Stroh Center, the Falcons picked up an 88-76 win last season (Jan. 18, 2023).
• The players on BGSU's 2023-24 active roster combined to score just 10 of the Falcons' 88 points in the last 'Battle of I-75' at the Stroh, while returning Rockets accounted for 64 of their team's 76 points in that game.
• The Falcons are 22-14 at home, 15-24 on the road and 8-4 at neutral sites vs. UT through the years. Additional series information can be found in the PDF version of these very notes.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the Toledo game, the Falcons will hit the road for the next two contests, beginning with a Wednesday (Feb. 21) matchup against Akron. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Rhodes Arena.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will head to the MAC's "West Coast" to meet Northern Illinois less than 72 hours later (Saturday, Feb. 24).
