Bulls capture game two for split of twinbill
In the nightcap, however, the Bulls bounced back for a 13-2 win.
Freshman Cameron Kaufman was 3-for-3 with three stolen bases in the first-game win for the Falcons (2-15, 1-2 MAC), while Marti Henkel continued her success at the plate with a two-run double off the wall.
Henkel also had a hit in the second game, as did Kaufman. In addition to that duo, Peyton Dolejs, Wynnie Reid and Reagan Williamson each had a hit in both ends of the twinbill.
Mackenzie Krafcik picked up the win with 3 1/3 innings of work in the circle, while Taylor Turner got the final seven outs, allowing just one hit, to earn the save.
Mia Mitchell homered in each game for the Bulls (10-12, 2-1 MAC), and Madison Fernimen had a total of five hits on the day.

GAME ONE – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Bulls threatened, but did not score, against BGSU starting pitcher Emma Denison in the first inning. Madison Fernimen singled to lead off the game, stealing second with one out before advancing to third on a grounder. But, with two outs, Denison won a lengthy battle with cleanup hitter Mia Mitchell, getting an inning-ending strikeout after a 10-pitch at-bat.
• UB threatened again in the second, loading the bases with one out on a Tianna Williams single and walks to Lyla Ambrose and Sara Kelly. Mackenzie Krafcik, who had entered the circle with a 3-0 count to Kelly, then got Alyssa Wasielewski to pop up to second base before inducing Fernimen to hit a fly ball to left for the third out.
• BGSU broke on top with a three-run second. Hannah Hunt reached when her leadoff bunt was misplayed for an error, and she took second when Cameron Kaufman laced a ball over the leaping shortstop's glove and into left-center. A ground ball to the right side advanced the runners, but UT starter Alexis Lucyshyn then battled back to get a strikeout after falling behind, 3-0, in the count.
• The next batter, however, was Marti Henkel, who drove a frozen rope to right field. The drive hit the wall on the fly, just several feet inside the foul pole, and the two-base hit scored both Hunt and Kaufman.
• Wynnie Reid traded places with Henkel, as her fly ball to left was just out of reach of a diving UB fielder for another two-out double.
• Krafcik retired the side in order in the third, and the BG bats went back to work. Peyton Dolejs roped a double to the gap in right-center – the Falcons' third double in a four at-bat span – and Reagan Williamson immediately drove Dolejs home with a single to right.
• Pinch-runner Delaney Davis stole second and took third on a grounder. Then, Kaufman smacked a ball through the left side for a run-scoring single that made it a 5-0 game.
• Emily Watters replaced Lucyshyn in the circle for the Bulls, and after issuing a walk to Lexi Carver, then set down the next two Falcons to end the threat.
• Krafcik worked her second-straight 1-2-3 inning, needing just six pitches to get through the fourth. But, the Bulls would get on the scoreboard in the fifth.
• After retiring eight-straight batters, Krafcik allowed a leadoff single to Kelly in the fifth, and Wasielewski followed with a bloop single to center. Fernimen's double would score a run, and an Abbey Nagel sacrifice fly plated another.
• A Lucyshyn groundout scored Fernimen, and Mitchell followed with a homer that just cleared the fence in straightaway center. BGSU's lead was down to a single run.
• The Falcons threatened in both the fifth and sixth innings, getting runners to second and third in both frames. In the fifth, Kaufman singled and would steal both second and third. Carver drew her second walk of the game and stole second later in the inning.
• In the sixth, Aaralyn Nogay drew a one-out walk, and Dolejs reached on an error. But, in both innings, Watters worked out of the jam.
• The Buffalo sixth saw Taylor Turner, who had entered the game the previous inning, allowed a two-out single to Wasielewski. But, Wasielewski was cut down attempting to steal on a perfect throw by catcher Henkel, as Kaufman applied the tag for the third out.
• In the seventh, Nagel drew a one-out walk, then took second on a wild pitch. Lucyshyn also drew a base on balls, and after Mitchell flied out to left for the second out, another wild pitch put the potential tying run at third and the go-ahead run at second. But, Turner got Lily Lauck to hit a ground ball to Hunt at third, and Hunt fired to Carver at first base to seal the win.
• Krafcik picked up the victory in relief, with Turner earning her first save as a Falcon.
GAME TWO – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Bulls broke on top early. Fernimen began the game with a double, and walks to Nagel and Lucyshyn loaded the bases with no outs. A grounder to third resulted in a force out at the plate, but Williams was hit by a pitch to force home a run. BGSU starter Scarlet Anderson retired the next two hitters, striking out Ambrose and getting Lauck to hit a fly ball to left.
• The Bulls doubled the lead in the second, on a walk, a passed ball and a single off the bat of Nagel.
• Hunt led off the BG second with a single, then promptly stole second. Henkel followed with a walk, but Carver's frozen rope was hit directly at the centerfielder, and Anderson's hard grounder was hit at the second baseman and began an inning-ending double play.
• The Bulls broke the game wide open in the third, scoring eight times. Ambrose had a two-run double in the inning, as did Fernimen, and Mitchell had a two-out, two-run homer.
• BG got two runs back in the third. Reid led off with a triple to right-center, and she would trot home on a one-out single by Dolejs. A Williamson flare to shallow right was just out of reach of the UB second baseman. But, Dolejs was forced to hold to see if the ball would be caught, and she was out at second on the play. Kaufman followed with a single through the right side, and Hunt singled to right on the very next pitch, scoring Williamson. Henkel followed with a single – BG's fifth hit of the inning – but UB starter Julia Tarantino was able to get an inning-ending strikeout.
• The fourth inning saw UB increase the lead when Ferniman singled to score Lauck, who had walked. Wasilewski, who had followed Lauck's walk with a double, would come home on a Lucyshyn single.
• Back-to-back plays in the bottom of the fourth left no doubt that things were not going BG's way. After Kaylee Cole reached on a leadoff bunt single, Reid hit a scorcher. But, the ball was hit right at second baseman Williams. Cole had strayed only a few steps off of the first-base bag, but was doubled off of first on the play.
• Then, Nogay hit a hard grounder that first baseman Nagel attempted to field with a backhand play near the first-base bag. The ball hit the heel of her glove and caromed into the air – sailing into the path of Williams, who plucked it out of the air and beat Nogay to the bag for the third out.
• UB capped the scoring in the fifth inning, on an Ambrose walk and Kelly's triple off the top of the wall in right. Williamson drove a ball to the wall in center in the bottom of the inning, for a one-out double, but Tarantino got back-to-back ground balls that ended the game.
