BGSU Falls at Duquesne, 2-0

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Duquesne University scored a goal in each half on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 25), knocking the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 2-0 decision at Rooney Field.
Margey Brown scored in the 19th minute for the Dukes (2-1-0), with Mackenzie Muir doubling the lead at the midway point of the second half.
The Falcons (2-1-0), after being held without a shot in the first half, outshot the hosts by a 12-7 count in the second, but goalkeeper Maddy Neundorfer made five saves en route to the clean sheet.
Madison Vukas made four saves for the Falcons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team had a shot attempt for nearly 18 minutes to start the match, before a long effort by DU went wide left.
• The Dukes got on the board in the 19th minute, however. A right-side cross from Lindsay Krafchick went just over a leaping BGSU defender and found Margey Brown in the center of the six-yard box. BGSU goalkeeper Madison Vukas got a piece of Brown's ensuing shot, which came from point-blank range, but the ball trickled across the line to give the hosts the lead.
• That was the Dukes' lone shot on goal in the opening half, and DU had just four total shot attempts in those 45 minutes. But, Duquesne held the Falcons without a single shot attempt during that time.
• BG first shot attempt in the opening minute of the second half, but Brynn Gardner's redirection of a left-side serve was hit directly to goalkeeper Maddy Neundorfer.
• Moments later, a diagonal ball from Jaden Frigerio found Emma Stransky, but Stransky's header was wide right.
• Six minutes into the second half, a pass by Michelle Hochstadt put Brynn Gardner down the right side, but Gardner's shot was saved.
• At the other end, however, a Paige Kuisis header off of a free kick hit the post.
• With just over an hour gone, Stransky fought off a challenge from a DU defender on the left side of the pitch, and played a cross. The ball found Lexi Czerwien, who hit a shot. That shot was deflected, but still spun toward the goalmouth, but Neundorfer was able to grab it.
• One minute later at the other end of the field, Vukas went to the ground to make a save of a shot by DU's Mackenzie Muir.
• Almost exactly halfway through the second period, though, Muir doubled her team's lead. A diagonal ball toward the box was headed away by a BG player, but the ball went directly to Muir, who hit a low shot into the left side of the net.
• DU threatened again with 20 minutes to go, but Vukas made a diving save at the near post on a hard shot by Brianna Moore.
• Hochstadt had a chance after a low right-side cross by Czerwien was moved along by Gardner, but Hochstadt's shot went over the goal.
• With under 10 minutes remaining, BGSU had three shot attempts and a pair of corner kicks in under a minute's time. After a nifty move by Alexis Tsaprailis along the end line, a shot by Emme Butera was blocked out for a corner kick. Off of a short corner, Hochstadt put a curving ball on frame, but Neundorfer made a diving stop, knocking the ball away for another corner. That corner resulted in another Hochstadt shot that was blocked, and Neundorfer eventually was able to grab the ball and end that threat.
STATS, NOTES & NUMBERS
• The Falcons had a 12-11 advantage in total shot attempts, including a 12-7 lead in the second half.
• DU had a slim 6-5 lead in shots on goal, while BGSU had a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.
• Four Falcons – Emme Butera, Isabelle Gilmore, Taylor Green and Madison Vukas – played all 90 minutes on Sunday. Butera and Vukas each have played all 270 minutes this season to date.
• Both freshman Haley Wolf and redshirt sophomore Emily Hollar were in the starting lineup for the first time in their respective collegiate careers.
