Stransky scores one goal, sets up another as the Orange and Brown pick up a win in Cleveland
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team went on the road and picked up a win Sunday afternoon (Sept. 8), downing Cleveland State University, 2-0. The non-conference game was held at Krenzler Field.
Sophomore Emma Stransky scored what proved to be the winning goal for the Falcons (3-2-0) and played a huge role in setting up BGSU's other goal.
Stransky's goal came in the game's 33rd minute. After a short corner kick, Michelle Hochstadt played a crossing ball into the box, where Stransky rose up and headed it over the outstretched arm of leaping CSU goalkeeper Madison Ott.
BGSU's second goal came after Stransky dispossessed a Viking defender of the ball deep in CSU's defensive end. Stransky knocked the ball away, then after falling to the ground, managed to knock a pass to Brynn Gardner in the 18-yard area. Gardner in turn slid a pass to an open Alaina Uncapher near the penalty spot. Uncapher took one touch, and from approximately eight yards out, picked her corner and doubled the Falcons' lead in the 84th minute.
The BGSU back line allowed the Vikings precious few scoring chances on the afternoon. BGSU had a 14-3 advantage in shots in the match, including a 6-1 margin in shots on goal. Madison Vukas made one save en route to the shutout. Ott had three saves for the Vikings.
