THE STARTING XI
I – The Falcons, at 8-1-6 (.733) overall, are off to the best start in school history. The 2018 team also had a .733 winning percentage through 15 matches, after beginning the year with a 10-3-2 record. The 2025 season is the 29th in the history of the program, which began in 1997.
II – Head coach Chris Fox and Company will put a school-record 13-match unbeaten streak on the line when BSU comes to Cochrane Sunday. BGSU is 7-0-6 since a 1-0 loss to Illinois on Aug. 17. As of Friday morning (Oct. 17), the Falcons are one of just 12 teams in the nation with one loss or fewer.
III – The Falcons are 3-0-5 in Mid-American Conference play, including wins over Kent State (2-1, Sept. 14), Central Michigan (4-0, Sept. 28) and Northern Illinois; 1-1 draws against Ohio, defending MAC champion Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Miami; and a scoreless tie vs. Toledo. BGSU is the only MAC team without a loss in league action.
IV – Most recently, junior Emma Stransky scored with nine minute to go, lifting the Falcons to a 1-0 win at Northern Illinois Thursday night (Oct. 16). Sophomore Payton O'Malley made six saves, just one shy of her career high, en route to the clean sheet.
V – BGSU lost four matches in MAC play last year, falling to Ohio, WMU, KSU and CMU. Those were the Falcons' first four opponents in league action this season. BG picked up eight points in the four matches vs. that group, after getting zero points against that quartet in 2024.
VI – Stransky leads the Falcons in scoring, with seven goals and 14 points on the year. She has scored the game-winning goal in each of BGSU's last four wins. Sixth-year collegian Ellie Pool, who had the primary assist on Stransky's goal at NIU, has eight points, while juniors Lizzie Bultynck and Gabby Lamparty each have seven. Another junior, Emme Butera, has six points including four assists. She is tied with Pool for the team lead in the latter category.
VII – O'Malley has started all 15 matches in goal, and has 53 saves, a goals-against average of 0.61 and a save percentage of .855. She currently leads the MAC in both GAA and save pct.
VIII – A total of 26 different players have seen action this season to date, with 21 Falcons having made at least one start. Four players – Butera, Lamparty, O'Malley and Pool – each have started all 15 games.
IX – Stransky has increased her career totals to 14 goals and 33 points, and she has moved into the top 20 on both BGSU lists. The junior is 17th in career goals and is tied for 19th in career points. With nine career game-winning goals, Stransky is tied for second in school history.
X – The Falcons have surpassed the win total for all of last season. BGSU finished the 2024 campaign with an overall record of 7-7-4 and a MAC ledger of 4-4-3, good for sixth in the league. Fox and his staff – first-year assistants Steven Samuel and Kyle Pettican – have a total of 20 returning student-athletes, including seven starters from a year ago. Six of the top-nine scorers from '24 returned.
XI – Ball State is 8-5-2 overall, and the Cardinals are 5-3-1 in MAC play after Thursday's 2-1 win over Toledo. The Cards have won three-straight matches and four of the last five. 22. Addie Chester leads the team with nine goals and 22 points on the year. Three goalkeepers have started at least two matches this season. Kate Pallante has been between the posts for six of the nine MAC matches. Overall, she has 23 saves, two shutouts and a 1.09 GAA. Andy Stoots is in his first season at the helm of the Cards, who went 7-8-3 overall and 2-6-3 in MAC action last fall.
XII (off the bench) – The Falcons trail BSU, 16-8-5, in the all-time series, but BGSU has won the last two matches. Last season, the Falcons picked up a 2-0 win in Muncie (Sept. 19, 2024), with Emily Hollar scoring BG's second goal. The teams' last meeting at Cochrane Stadium saw the Cardinals come away with a win by that same 2-0 score (Oct. 2, 2022). BGSU is 3-9-1 in home games, 5-7-3 in road games and 0-0-1 in neutral-site matches vs. the Cards through the years.
