Northern Michigan Beats Bowling Green 3-2 on Friday Night

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—The Bowling Green ice hockey program battled the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday, Dec. 5 in the first game of their final CCHA series of the calendar year. Northern Michigan got the better of the Falcons in the contest, escaping with a 3-2 victory.

How it happened
- Northern Michigan took an early lead through Caiden Gault, who fired a shot over the shoulder of Tyler Palmer with 6:37 left in the first to make the score 1-0.
- Bowling Green trailed the shots on goal battle after the first period of play, 7-4.
- Northern Michigan then extended their lead in the second period, after a puck was flipped out of their defensive zone into the stride of Landon McDonald, who converted on the break away to make the score 2-0.
- Shots after the second period were 16-14 in favor of the Wildcats, and goaltender William Gramme was in fine form in the Northern Michigan net.
- Northern Michigan then added a third early in the final frame, after a nice breakout pass found Girts Silkalns, who showed patience to take the puck around the goaltender and tuck it into an empty net.
- The Falcons were not done yet though, as Jack Blake wheeled through the Northern Michigan zone and attempted a wraparound shot that was saved. Connor Levis then buried the rebound for his fourth goal of the season to bring the Falcons withing two.
- The Falcons held the puck in the Northern Michigan zone for what seemed like the entirety of the final ten minutes, as the Wildcats took three straight penalties but the Falcons were unable to capitalize.
- With just over a minute left and the Falcon net empty, Brody Waters pounced on a puck in the blue paint after a shot from Ben Doran was saved, forcing it into the Northern Michigan net to bring the Falcons within one.
- The Falcons had chances in the final minute, but Noah Morneau and Brayden Crampton both had shots saved which saw time expire with the Wildcats victorious.
