Bowling Green Finishes Fourth at Zippy Invite
December 07, 2025 | General, Women's Swimming & Diving
AKRON, Ohio — The Bowling Green women's swim and dive team closed the Zippy Invitational with a fourth-place finish Sunday, totaling 1134.5 points behind Akron, Cornell and Buffalo.
"We spent the past four days competing against some really solid teams," head coach Tanner Barton said. "Akron is hosting the MAC Championship in February, so it was important for the ladies to familiarize themselves with the pool and the diving boards. They also competed at an exceptionally high level, qualifying for multiple finals and posting even faster times at night."
The Falcons opened the final session with a strong showing in the 1650 freestyle. Freshman Caroline Toledo placed fourth in 17:24.42, a personal best. Hanna Ehrman added a 13th-place finish in 18:16.78.
Bowling Green stacked points in the 200 backstroke, led by Morgan Sokol in eighth at 2:02.52 and Bridget Kurtzweil in ninth at 2:02.33. Madison Bond earned 11th in a personal record 2:04.88, followed by Alex Johnson in 13th at 2:06.27. Ashley Fryer (17th, 2:04.92) and Bella Treib (21st, 2:08.18) also scored.
In the 100 freestyle, Samia Becdach paced the Falcons in 11th at 51.33. Corine Rieskamp (15th, 51.84) and Sierra Newton (20th, 52.02) each posted personal bests, while Emily McNicol placed 22nd in 52.12.
Bond returned for the 200 breaststroke, finishing seventh in a career-best 2:20.59. In the 200 butterfly, Grace Bodrock earned eighth in 2:03.20, and Johnson added a 15th-place finish in 2:10.31.
Bowling Green closed the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The A-relay of Becdach, McNicol, Newton and Rieskamp touched in 3:26.33.
"We've seen real progress in both speed and depth in our freestyle events," Barton said. "Our 200 and 400 freestyle relays weren't just season-best times — they were the fastest by a BGSU quartet since 2022 and 2023, respectively."
The Falcons return to Cooper Pool on Dec. 13 to host John Carroll and Findlay.
"We encourage everyone to come on Saturday to support the team as we close out the first semester. Ay Ziggy!"
