Ed Sykes joined the Bowling Green sports performance staff in February as the assistant football strength and conditioning coach. Sykes will directly assist with all aspects of BGSU football’s strength and conditioning program. Sykes will also serve as the head men’s soccer strength and conditioning coach, overseeing all aspects of their strength and conditioning program.
Sykes comes to BGSU after spending three years serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the University of Massachusetts’ football program.

Before his time serving at UMass, Sykes spent time with Campbell as a graduate assistant. He assisted with all aspects of the football and wrestling strength and conditioning programs. Prior to his graduate assistantship, Sykes spent time as an intern with Ohio State and at Florida working directly with football.
During the year he spent with the Gators, Sykes earned the title of head strength and conditioning intern, overseeing all day-to-day operations of the internship. The Gators were ranked as high as No. 3 in the Associated Press poll that year, finishing the year off as the SEC east champions before facing Alabama in the SEC championship.Â

Sykes’ roots began at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. At Lock Haven he was actively involved with volunteering with the athletics department as he was responsible for the strength and conditioning programs for the baseball and women’s volleyball teams alongside their respective head coaches. He was born and raised in Chichester, Pa., representing the Delaware County.
