Sept. 21 - USPV "Dream Team" 4, at BGSU 0 - Bowling Green State University Athletics

The Falcons held their own in an exhibition match against a team of professionals. The USPV "Dream Team" is made up of players signed to contracts by the United States Professional Volleyball League, a league scheduled to begin play in January of 2001. The team is in the midst of the Great Mid-America Professional and University Fall Tour". The "Dream Team" is playing a series of matches throughout the midwest, with BGSU one of only three stops in the state of Ohio.

The "Dream Team" was victorious in all four games (15-9, 15-2, 15-7, 25-19), but the Falcons provided some highlights for the home fans. BG was tied at 6-6 in game one before succumbing, and the Brown and Orange took an 11-8 lead in the fourth game, forcing legendary USPV coach Arie Selinger to take a timeout and sending the Falcon bench into a frenzy.

"I'm very pleased with the overall performance of our team," said BGSU head coach Denise Van De Walle. "We had only one bad game. Our serving was the best I've seen, and our passing and serve receive were very good.

"I liked our defense in the rally. (NOTE: The fourth game was played under an international scoring system, where the teams played to 25 using rally scoring.) Usually, you get tentative, but it didn't seem to bother us, even when we fell behind, 4-0.

"We met a few goals. We wanted to serve a couple aces, and we had four, and we wanted to make them call a timeout. I was very proud of our effort tonight."

Following that game-four TO, the "Dream Team" reeled off six of the next seven points to take a 14-12 lead, but BG used a 4-1 run soon after to tie matters at 17. The visitors then scored eight of the next 10 points to end the match.

Melissa Lewis had 13 kills and 10 digs for the Falcons, while Kris Pesorda had 10 kills. Lori Kemerer tied Lewis with 10 digs, and hit a team-best .208 (8-3-24).

For the "Dream Team", former Indiana University standout Anne Eastman hit .667 (18-2-24), while Addie Hauschild (Univ. of the Pacific) and Sarah Silvernail (Washington State Univ.) hit .467 and .421, respectively. Jennifer Wrightson (Univ. of San Diego), a former assistant coach at MAC-rival Toledo, hit .375 with 13 kills for the "Dream Team."
