The NCAA has released the latest Division I volleyball statistics, and Bowling Green State University senior Lori Kemerer (Antwerp, Ohio/Antwerp) ranks among the national leaders in blocking. Kemerer is 20th in the nation in blocks per game, with 1.45. She has a total of 113 blocks in 78 games this year, as of Sunday. Kemerer currently leads the Mid-American Conference in blocks per game.
Kemerer, who ranks sixth or higher in each of BGSU's career blocking categories, has a career total of 497 blocks. She is second in that category. The BGSU career record is 569 blocks, amassed by Lisa Mika (1988-91). Kemerer is also second at the school in career block assists (388) and is sixth in solo blocks (109).
Last week, Kemerer had a hitting percentage of .448 as the Falcons swept a pair of home matches against Buffalo and Northern Illinois. She averaged 5.17 kills and 1.50 blocks per game.
With just three more blocks, Kemerer would become only the second player in school history to amass 1,000 career kills, 1,000 career digs and 500 blocks. Mika currently is the only player to reach the milestone.
The NCAA Division I statistics are released each week (generally Tuesday or Wednesday) through late November.
BGSU, 17-9 overall and 10-4 in MAC play, is on the road for three-straight conference matches this week. The Falcons, having won 11 of the last 12 matches, head to Ball State (22-5, 13-1) for tonight's (Nov. 10) match. BSU is riding an 11-match winning streak. The Brown and Orange will face Toledo Friday night (Nov. 12) before heading to Eastern Michigan the following afternoon (Nov. 13).
