CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University junior Amber Vorst (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida) has been named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the conference office has announced. Vorst, a left-side hitter on the Falcon volleyball team, earns the honor for the first time in her BGSU career.
Vorst won the MAC award after recording a .667 hitting percentage in BGSU's Saturday (Sept. 30) win over Marshall. The victory completed a 2-0 weekend for the Falcons, who defeated Kent State in five games Friday (Sept. 29). Vorst had eight kills and no errors in 12 total attempts in the win over the Thundering Herd.
Vorst has a 3.73 cumulative grade point average as a communication disorders major.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week award is presented to one male and one female each week. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and have performed well during the past week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
The Falcons (9-4 overall, 2-2 MAC) of head coach Denise Van De Walle will play three road matches this week, beginning with Wednesday's (Oct. 4) contest at Toledo. Then, BGSU will play at Western Michigan Friday (Oct. 6) and at Central Michigan the following night. All three matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
