Volleyball's Rommeck Eighth In The Nation In Blocks

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The NCAA has released the latest volleyball statistics, and Bowling Green State University student-athletes are represented in several categories. Junior Caty Rommeck (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) and freshman Susie Norris (Bascom, Ohio/Hopewell-Loudon) are ranked in blocks and digs, respectively. The NCAA statistics are current through matches of Nov. 19.
In the NCAA statistical rankings, Rommeck, a middle hitter/blocker, has moved up to eighth in the country in blocks, averaging 1.63 blocks per game. Nebraska's Amber Holmquist leads the nation with 1.98 blocks per game.
Norris, a left-side hitter, is ranked 14th nationally with 4.24 digs per game. She is the top freshman in the country in that category. Rider's Evette Hoeffner paces the country with 5.55 digs per contest.
Following Tuesday's (Nov. 21) match vs. Kent State, Rommeck has raised her average to 1.65 blocks per game, while Norris has improved her mark to a school-record 4.28 digs per contest. Her total of 462 digs also represents a BGSU single-season record.
The Falcons of head coach Denise Van De Walle suffered a four-game loss to visiting KSU in Tuesday's Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinal match. The loss snapped an eight-match winning streak, and also broke an eight-contest home win streak for the Brown and Orange. BGSU finishes with an overall record of 21-9. The Falcons posted a MAC mark of 12-6 to tie for the East Division title.
