Bowling Green, OH - Tomorrow, every member of the Bowling Green Men's Basketball team will wake up and know that this is the day, this is the game that could make or break their season. Kent State is coming to town. Yes, that's first place Kent State, the team that is leading the MAC East Division by 1 1/2 games.
Not only is first place on the line against Kent, but a big day is planned for BGSU's two seniors, Anthony Stacey and Dave Esterkamp. Going into the game with 1,822 career points, Stacey needs just 13 points to become BG's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Howard Komives' mark of 1,834. That mark has stood for over 35 years, and it will be Stacey's second career leading record broken this season. He now has 216 steals in his career, surpassing the previous mark of 201 set by David Jenkins (1981-84). His counterpart, Esterkamp, needs only eight points to reach the 1,000 point mark, which will make him only the 30th player to do so at BGSU.
All of the personal accolades, however, will be secondary to team's success. "I won't be thinking about it (the record) Wednesday night, because this is our biggest game of the year," said Stacey.
With just four regular season games left on the schedule, Bowling Green is in a tight race for first place with Kent and Akron. Not many teams in the East can be counted out at this point, however.
Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available in the athletic ticket office, but a sell-out is expected. Call 1-877-BGSU-TICKET for more information.
