Stacey And Esterkamp Share BGSU MVP Honors

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Seniors Anthony Stacey (Elyria, Ohio/Grafton Midview) and Dave Esterkamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) shared Most Valuable Player honors for the 1999-2000 Bowling Green State University men's basketball team. The awards were announced Thursday (March 23) at the team's banquet.
Stacey ended his Falcon career as the school's all-time scoring leader, with 1,938 points. Stacey also holds the school's career steals record, with 226. He was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year for his efforts this season. Esterkamp, an all-league honorable-mention choice this year, is ranked 25th in BGSU history with 1,080 career points.
The duo, the only seniors on the Falcon roster, also picked up the Captains Awards as well at the banquet. Stacey and Esterkamp combined to play in 235 games, starting 202, in their careers.
Sophomore Brent Klassen (Kimball, Neb./Kimball/New Hampton [N.H.] Prep School) was also honored at the banquet, picking up the Earl Rupright Most Improved Player Award. Klassen played in 29 games this year, starting nine. He averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds.
The Falcons went 22-8 overall and won the MAC regular-season title with a 14-4 league mark. BGSU made an appearance in national postseason play, losing at BYU in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament.
