Men's Track Signs Four To National Letter Of Intent

Bowling Green State University Head Men's Track Coach Sterling Martin announced today the signing of four student-athletes to national letters of intent. Dean Coticchia (Olmsted Falls, OH), Paul Niedwiecki (Adrian, MI), Justin Perez (Mt. Morris, MI) and Grant Shadden (Marshalltown, IA) will be begin their studies at BGSU in the fall of 2000.
Dean Coticchia was the state runner-up in the high jump at 6'11". "Dean has the potential to jump 7'0" this year, which would put him in an elite field of high school jumpers. He should make an immediate impact within the Mid-American Conference," stated Martin.
Paul Niedwiecki finished in ninth place at the Michigan state cross country meet for Class A schools and is the top returning senior based on time in 3,200 meter event in the state of Michigan. "Paul has consistently been one of the top distance runners in the state of Michigan and has shown steady improvement over the years. He will help strengthen our cross country program and give us great depth in the distance events on the track," said Martin.
Justin Perez was the Michigan Class B state cross country champion. "Justin is a fine young runner with a strong work ethic and a competitive spirit that will enhance the development of our cross country and track programs," commented Martin. Perez comes from the traditionally strong running program at Flint Powers High School under the guidance of coach Mike Gould.
Grant Shadden is the Iowa state meet cross country champion and meet record holder as well as the Iowa state meet track and field champion in the 3,200 meters. "Grant is one of those rare athletes that seem to make everyone around him a better athlete. I am very proud to have a person of his ability and character joining our program. He should make an immediate impact within the MAC."
