The NCAA has released the latest volleyball statistics, and Bowling Green State University is represented in several categories. Junior Caty Rommeck (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) and freshman Susie Norris (Bascom, Ohio/Hopewell-Loudon) are ranked in blocks and digs, respectively, while the Falcons are listed in both of those categories as a team. The NCAA statistics are current through matches of Sept. 17.
Rommeck, a middle hitter/blocker, is currently third in the country in blocks, averaging 1.91 blocks per game. BYU's Nina Puikkonen leads the nation with 1.97 blocks per game.
Norris, a left-side hitter, is ranked ninth nationally with 4.47 digs per game. Dartmouth's Ashley Dean paces the country with 5.21 digs per contest.
As a team, the Falcons are ranked eighth in the NCAA in digs, averaging 19.64 per game. BGSU is 14th in the country in blocks, with 3.09 per contest. The Falcons lead the Mid-American Conference in both categories.
The Falcons (7-2) of head coach Denise Van De Walle will continue a seven-match homestand this weekend, facing defending league champion Ball State in a Friday (Sept. 22) match before meeting last year's MAC East Division winner, Akron, Saturday (Sept. 23). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at venerable Anderson Arena (5,000).
