Powers has an overall record of 246-196-36 (.552 pct.) in 13 years as head coach at Bowling Green (1994-SA), Rensselaer (1989-94) and Rochester Institute of Technology (1988-89). His record with the Brown and Orange stands at 126-125-21 (.502 pct.). Appointed the head coach at Bowling Green on July 12, 1994, Powers is the fourth head coach in the program's history. BGSU at Ice Breaker Cup Bowling Green was up against pretty tough competition to begin its 2001-2002 campaign when it travelled to last weekend's Ice Breaker Cup at the University of Maine. BGSU lost to No. 8 Maine on Friday, Oct. 12, by the score of 9-1. Sophomore defenseman Roger Leonard scored Bowling Green's lone score at 18:41 of the second period. Mark Wires and Tyler Knight assisted on the goal. On Saturday, Oct. 13, BGSU rebounded with a 1-1 tie against No. 13 Clarkson and won in a shootout. Sophomore forward D'Arcy McConvey scored both the regulation goal at 16:37 of the third period and the shootout goal.
Masters Sets New Career Mark Junior goalie Tyler Masters recorded a career-high 51 saves on Saturday, Oct. 13, against #13 Clarkson at the Ice Breaker Cup, in addition to seven shootout saves. The game finished in a 1-1 tie after Masters knocked away 51 of 52 shots attempted by the Knights. His 51 saves is four shy of BGSU's school record of 55 set by Al Sarachman on Dec. 8, 1974 against Michigan State. In two games, Masters finished with 76 saves.
2001-2002 Captains This year's team captain will be senior forward Greg Day. The assistant captains will be seniors Marc Barlow and Scott Hewson. Combined, the three players have played in 318 games and scored over 70 goals in the last three years. Day has not missed a single game since he arrived in Bowling Green, appearing in 116 games.
