Orange Defeats Brown in BGSU Hockey Scrimmage, 2-0

Bowling Green, Ohio - Two freshmen scored goals on Saturday afternoon in Bowling Green State University's annual Brown/Orange hockey game at the BGSU Ice Arena, leading the Orange to a 2-0 victory.
First-year player Ryan Minnabarriett scored just 3:27 into the first period to put the Orange up 1-0. Freshman Pat Myers and sophomore Mark Wires assisted on the goal.
The defense for both teams stiffened for the remainder of the 20-minute first period. Junior Tyler Masters recorded 13 saves for the Orange in the first period while his counterpart, freshman Jordan Sigalet, had three saves in the net for the Brown squad.
Freshman Kelsey Muench added to the Orange's lead just :52 seconds into the second period for a 2-0 advantage. Senior co-captain Greg Day and senior Grady Moore assisted on the goal.
The teams played one 20-minute period at full strength and then played a 15-minute period four-on-four. Masters finished with 23 saves in the two periods, while Sigalet finished with seven. Senior Jason Gural had one save in the net.
Bowling Green opens its 2001-02 season next weekend with a trip to the University of Maine for the Ice Breaker Cup. BGSU takes on the host Black Bears on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. and then play a second-round game on Saturday, Oct. 13, against either Clarkson or St. Cloud State. Maine was ranked 10th last week in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine's Preseason Poll while St. Cloud State was ninth and Clarkson 13th.
