FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - Doug Wrenn scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading Washington over Bowling Green 81-74 Saturday in a semifinal game of the Top of the World Classic.
The Huskies (2-0) overcame a 28-point shooting performance by Bowling Green's Keith McLeod, who scored 22 in the second half and hit big baskets every time Washington threatened to blow the game open.
Washington opened a nine-point lead at the start of the second half on a three-point shot by Curtis Allen but could not pull away from the Falcons (1-1). A basket by Bowling Green's Erik Crawford at 12:26 on a feed from McLeod gave the Falcons a 48-47 lead.
A three-point shot by the Huskies' Will Conroy at 9:25 gave Washington the lead for good. The Falcons closed the gap to 73-70 on a pair of free throws by Len Matela with just under two minutes left, but Bowling Green managed just one more basket and were forced to foul. The Huskies hit 6 of 8 from the free throw line to put the game out of reach.
Allen finished with 18 points and was 3 for 5 from 3-point range. McLeod hit 5 of 8 three-pointers for Bowling Green.
