BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University women's basketball student-athlete Angie Farmer has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District IV University Division Team. Farmer, a senior guard, was named to the second team.
Farmer earns academic all-district honors for the second consecutive year, having been named to the second team last year as well.
The district team, announced late Wednesday (Feb. 22), is made up of student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve on the team, and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
Farmer, who has a 3.78 cumulative GPA as a secondary education (social studies) major, has started 13 of the 20 games in which she has seen action this year. She is second on the team with 10.6 points per game heading into Saturday's game at Buffalo, and she leads the Mid-American Conference in free-throw percentage with a .944 success rate (51-of-54).
In MAC games, Farmer is shooting an even better .952 from the stripe, having made 40 of her 42 attempts.
Overall, Farmer, who missed five December games due to injury, leads the Falcons and was tied for 11th in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage. Farmer is converting on her long-range shots at a .430 rate (40-of-93).
Last year, Farmer set the school's single-season record by making 78 three-pointers. She is second on the BGSU career lists for three-point field goals made (151) and three-point pct. (.424, 151-of-356).
Farmer was one of just two MAC student-athletes to make the Verizon Academic All-District Team. Kent State's Julie Studer joined Farmer on the second squad.
The Verizon Academic All-District IV First Team consisted of Tennessee Tech's Janet Holt, Vanderbilt's Zuzi Klimesova, UT-Martin's Kelly Pendleton, Ohio State's Lauren Shenk and Xavier's Taru Tuukkanen.
Farmer is joined on the second team by Studer, Austin Peay's Brooke Armistead, Eastern Kentucky's Zoey Artist, Tennessee's Kara Lawson and Dayton's RaeLynn McIntosh.
