Women's Track Fifth After First Day at MAC Championship

Mt. Pleasant, MI - The Bowling Green women's track team sits fifth out of 12 teams after one day of competition at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championship hosted by Central Michigan University. The Falcons scored 29 points on day one, just one less than the host Chippewas.
Two seniors, Andrea Cook (Marysville, OH) and Lisa Keegan (Green Springs, OH), each placed second in the pole vault and 20 lb. weight throw respectively to pace the Falcons. Cook's jump of 12-3 1/2 was good enough for runner-up honors as was Keegan's throw of 58-2 1/2. Another senior, Lisa Mariea also finished strong for the Falcons taking fourth in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 17:38.98. BGSU's Distance Medley team of sophomore Joy Echler (Montpelier, OH), junior Jovone Houpe (Gahanna, OH), freshman Briana Killian (Englewood, OH) and senior Christine Thompson (Amherst, OH) also fared well, coming home in third with a time of 11:58.66.
In preliminary action Friday, freshman Alicia Taylor (Cleveland Heights, OH) advanced to the finals of the 60 meter high hurdles, placing fifth in the preliminaries with a time of 8.81.
The Falcons wrap up action at the MAC Championship Saturday with the first event set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
