NEW YORK, N.Y. - Bowling Green State University women's swimmer Jen Jarjosa has been named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-America Fall/Winter At-Large Team, it was announced Thursday morning (April 19). Jarjosa, a senior at BGSU, was one of 12 women named to the second team.
Jarjosa, a native of West Chester, Ohio, carries a perfect 4.00 GPA as a biology major. She has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll in each of the last two years, the first two years the award has been presented. As a sophomore, she earned Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention. She is also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society.
In late March, she was named the BGSU Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year at the athletic department's annual student-athlete academic honors banquet.
A team tri-captain, Jarjosa competed in a myriad of events for the Falcons this year, including the 200 IM, 100 and 200 Back, 50, 100 and 200 Free, and several relays. She had the team's top time in the 200 Back this year.
Jarjosa became eligible for national academic honors by being named to the Verizon Academic All-District IV First Team in March.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve, and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are chosen by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district. All first-team members of the district teams are placed on the All-America ballot.
Jarjosa was one of only two MAC student-athletes to be named to the Verizon Academic All-America Fall/Winter At-Large Team.
