Twyman, Norris Named To Academic All-District Squad

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - A pair of Bowling Green State University student-athletes have been named to the Verizon Academic All-District University Division Volleyball Team, it was announced today. Redshirt junior Laura Twyman and junior Susie Norris have been selected to the team.
Twyman, who earns academic all-district honors for the second consecutive year, was named to the second team. She was a third-team selection a year ago. Norris, who has made the squad for the first time in her career, was named to the third team.
Twyman carries a 3.96 cumulative grade point average as an accounting major. On the court, she is hitting .226 on the season with 195 kills, ranking third on the team in each category. She has a total of 82 blocks this season, for an average of 0.88 per game.
Norris has a cumulative GPA of 3.89 as an early childhood studies major. On the court, she has 3.38 kills and 3.59 digs per game this fall, ranking among the MAC leaders in both categories. Norris is 12th in the conference in kills and eighth in digs, and she currently has a total of 922 career kills.
BGSU is one of just two MAC schools to have two representatives to the academic all-district team. Miami also had two student-athletes selected, while Kent State and Toledo each had one team member.
The 2002 Verizon Academic All-District IV University Division Team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
The Verizon Academic All-District Team is part of the Verizon Academic All-America program. First team selections will appear on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America Women's Volleyball team.
The Falcons are 8-18 overall and 3-11 in MAC play heading into weekend action. BGSU will host Buffalo Friday (Nov. 15) at 6:00 p.m. at Anderson Arena, before heading to Northern Illinois for a Sunday (Nov. 17) contest.
