BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University's Erika Flanders has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's All-Great Lakes Region Team, it has been announced. Flanders, a senior goalkeeper, was named to the third team.
The NSCAA award adds to the long list of honors accumulated by Flanders during her BGSU career. Flanders was named to the All-MAC First Team in 2002, becoming just the second Falcon in the six-year history of the program to earn all-league first-team honors. She also was named to the MAC's All-Tournament Team for the second time in her career.
Flanders played every minute of every match in 2002, a total of 2040:18. She had a record of 12-8-2, a total of 137 saves, a goals-against average of 1.24 and seven shutouts, setting school records in each category.
In fact, Flanders owns every goalkeeping record -- single-match, single-season and career -- in school history. She finishes her career ranked as the MAC's all-time leader in minutes played (7084:22) and saves (473), and is tied for second in conference history in wins (34) and third in shutouts (17).
The Falcons finished the 2002 campaign with an overall record of 12-8-2. BGSU, picked to finish ninth in the MAC in the preseason coaches poll, placed fourth with a league record of 7-4-1.
