Falcons End Regular Season On the Road Bowling Green travels to Indiana this weekend for its final regular-season series at Notre Dame (March 1-2). Both faceoffs are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Falcons have ended the regular season on a high note in recent years, posting a 5-1 record the last three years in season-ending series'.
BGSU Versus Notre Dame (12-15-5 overall, 10-12-4 CCHA) BGSU leads the all-time series 29-24-4 against Notre Dame. The two teams split its series earlier this season at the BGSU Ice Arena (Dec. 7-8). ND took game one, 6-3, while the Falcons bounced back with a 4-2 win the next night. BGSU is 10-13-3 on the road vs. ND and just 2-6-2 in the last 10 meetings with the Irish.
Falcons End Home Season On High Note Bowling Green ended its home season with a 6-0 victory over #12-ranked Northern Michigan last Saturday (Feb. 23) at BGSU Ice Arena. Five different Falcons scored, including two goals from SO Roger Leonard, for BGSU's largest margin of victory in nearly two years. Leonard's first goal was a PPG and the first of the game, while SR Ryan Wetterberg added a short-handed goal in the second period to start the rout. JR goalie Tyler Masters had his second shutout in the last four games, turning away 36 Wildcat shots. NMU beat the Falcons the night before, 4-1, with BGSU's only offense coming from a penalty shot goal by SR Greg Day. It was the first penalty shot goal in nearly four years for BG. Masters had 38 saves in the game.
Falcon Defense Steps Up The No. 1 (Chad Theuer) and No. 4 (Bryce Cockburn) scorers in the CCHA were held to just two points (both assists) by Bowling Green in two games last weekend. Theuer ended with 11 shots while Cockburn had just four. BGSU used a great penalty killing unit and outstanding play by goalie Tyler Masters to keep NMU 0-for-10 on the power play and held scoreless on Saturday in a 6-0 Falcon win.
BGSU Playoff Scenarios Entering this weekend's series, BGSU has four-different possibilities for CCHA first-round playoff opponents (March 8-10). The only certainty is that the Falcons will be on the road. If BG remains in 11th place, they will play at either Michigan State or Michigan, who are both tied for first place. If BG moves into 10th place past Miami, the Falcons could face either UAF or Northern Michigan. UAF is currently three points ahead of NMU for third place, but the Wildcats have a two-game series with last-place Lake Superior while the Nanooks' conference schedule is finished.
Current Point Streaks SR captain Greg Day extended his point streak to three games with a goal and assist on Feb. 23 vs. Northern Michigan. In the last three games, Day has 2-2--4. Others with one-game points streaks are Austin de Luis, Scott Hewson, Tyler Knight, D'Arcy McConvey, Ryan Minnabarriet and Ryan Wetterberg.
Leonard Lights Up SO Roger Leonard had his first multiple-goal game on Saturday in a 6-0 BGSU win over Northern Michigan. Leonard scored the game's first goal 50 seconds into the second period on a BG power play and then added another late in the third period. The goals were his seventh and eighth of the season, respectively.
