CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University baseball sophomore Andy Hudak has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference office Wednesday afternoon (May 15).
Hudak, a Toledo, Ohio, native, earns the honor after helping the Falcons to three wins in a key four-game series at Kent State. BGSU has moved within a game-and-a-half of East Division-leading KSU with four games to play. It was the first series win for BGSU over KSU in 13 years.
Hudak paced the offensive attack by batting .625 (10-for-16) with nine RBIs, seven runs scored, three doubles and two homers in the four games. He finished with the weekend with a 1.188 slugging percentage.
Hudak now leads all MAC hitters with a .486 batting average in league play, as well as doubles, on-base pct. and slugging pct. The Start High School product is also on an eight-game hitting streak in which he is batting .519 and BGSU is 6-2.
The Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor comes two days after Hudak was named the MAC Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Hudak, undecided upon a major in the College of Arts and Sciences, has a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
The Falcons, after a Wednesday (May 15) game at Michigan State University, close the regular season by hosting the University of Akron in a four-game weekend series Friday through Sunday (May 17-19) at Steller Field.
