BGSU Goes to Joe Louis Arena for One Game vs. Wayne State (Tuesday, Jan. 21)
BGSU will play its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday night at the famous Joe Louis Arena against Wayne State. Faceoff at JLA is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. The single game vs. WSU will be the lone game of the week for the Falcons, who will next play a two-game series at Nebraska-Omaha (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) in Omaha, Neb.
BGSU vs. Wayne State (9-11-1 overall, 2-3-1 College Hockey America)
The two teams met for the first time ever last season in a home-and-home series. Wayne State tied the Falcons at BGSU Ice Arena (4-4) while BGSU took a 4-1 win at Wayne State the next night. BGSU goalie Tyler Masters had 29 saves in 65 minutes of action in the 4-4 tie, while Jordan Sigalet tallied 29 saves in 60 minutes of work in the 4-1 BGSU victory. It was Sigalet's first collegiate victory in net. Defenseman Kevin Bieksa had three assists in the two games last year.
Wires Finding His Mark in Recent Games
JR Mark Wires recorded three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in two games at #7 Ohio State last week, giving him 3-5--8 in his last eight games. He has a season total of 8-7--15 in 22 games played, third-best on the BGSU team. He was the only Falcon to finish even in plus/minus in the two games at OSU.
Bieksa Streaking at Right Time
JR defensman Kevin Bieksa had a goal in game one vs. #7 Ohio State and an assist in game two vs. the Buckeyes last week, tying his season-best point streak of three games. Bieksa leads the Falcons in points (17) and assists (12) this season, and has recorded a point in five of his last seven games (2-5--7). The Vancouver draft pick is fifth in scoring among defensemen in the CCHA and 17th among defensemen nationally.
Mike Falk Leading Freshmen in Scoring
FR forward Mike Falk had his season-best tying three-game point streak snapped on Friday at #7 Ohio State. Falk had recorded four assists in his last three games prior to Friday's contest, including a season-best two helpers vs. Northern Michigan on Jan. 10. Falk leads all freshmen in points (12) and assists (nine), and is fifth on the team overall in points scored. Ten (3-7) of his 12 points have come in 16 league games.
Rogosheske Liking CCHA Action
SO Alex Rogosheske scored his second career goal at BGSU, and first PPG, in Friday's 6-1 loss at #7 Ohio State. Rogosheske, a transfer from the USMA has 2-4--6 this season, all in CCHA action.
Leonard Is Finding the Net, Recently
JR Roger Leonard scored his third goal in two games on Thursday vs. OSU with a power-play tally. He had two goals last Saturday vs. Northern Michigan. His last goal prior to the two netters vs. NMU had come 14 games ago in the season-opener vs. Niagara.
BGSU Players Hit Century Mark in Games Played
Two Falcons hit the century mark in games played last week at Ohio State. JR forward D'Arcy McConvey played in his 100th and 101st games, and JR forward Mark Wires played in his 100th game. McConvey has 20-42--62 in 101 games while Wires has 17-12--29 in 100 games. SR Tyler Knight leads all current Falcons with 138 games played. JR defensman Brian Escobedo is scheduled to play in his 100th career game on Tuesday night vs. Wayne State.
