KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Host Western Michigan University got a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team Friday afternoon (Oct. 10). The Mid-American Conference match was held at the WMU Soccer Complex.
With the win, the host Broncos improve to 5-7-1 overall and 4-4-0 in MAC play, while the Falcons drop to 5-7-1 and 3-3-1, respectively.
The loss snapped the Falcons' MAC-record conference road unbeaten streak at eight matches. BGSU's last MAC road regular-season setback came in the final match of the 2001 season (3-0 at Ball State; Nov. 1, 2001).
Early on, a pass found an open Julie Trundle, who headed the ball past WMU goalie Kate Perz into the upper right corner of the net. But, the Falcons were whistled offsides on the play, nullifying the goal with just over 11 minutes elapsed.
The Broncos got on the board with just over five minutes left in the first half. A shot by the host team's Brittanny Ivanic hit the post, and the rebound came to Katie Ruzinsky. Ruzinsky one-timed the ball to Andrea Tyler, who trapped the ball and fired it past Ali Shingler with 5:21 left before intermission.
The Falcons, who were outshot by a 15-8 margin, saw a scoring chance thwarted when Perz saved a rocket by sophomore Kristy Coppes early in the second half.
WMU doubled the lead with just 16:06 left in the match, as Chelsea McNally headed home a corner kick from Chantal Robinson.
The Broncos held a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal, with Perz making two saves in her shutout performance. Shingler made two saves, while senior Jenifer Kernahan had three saves in the final 13:59 of the match.
The Falcons will look to return to the win column Sunday (Oct. 12), when BG plays at Northern Illinois. That match is scheduled to begin at noon locally (1:00 p.m. Eastern).

QUOTING BGSU COACH ANDY RICHARDS
"It was a disappointing result today. And, it was a disappointing performance, particularly because we didn't build upon the momentum we generated last weekend at Ball State and Miami."
"We came out a little flat today. We were unfortunate to have Julie Trundle's goal disallowed because of offsides. And, their goalkeeper made a very good save against Kristy Coppes. If those two chances had gone in, the game might have been a little different. It was unfortunate that we didn't get things going early and build off our momentum."
"We sat as a team afterward, talked about what happened and constructively criticized. Hopefully, we can move forward to Sunday and make amends for the disappointments of today."
"Any MAC game can be won or lost on any small instances. Unfortunately, we didn't make things happen today. But, the team has a determination to put things right, and we now look forward to Sunday's game."
