BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University football team travels to Ypsilanti, Mich., for a Saturday (Oct. 18) game at Eastern Michigan, with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m. On Tuesday (Oct. 14), Falcon head coach Gregg Brandon sat down with members of the media to discuss the EMU game, last weekend's win at Western Michigan, and other related topics...
On Mitchell Crossley, who had several big defensive plays in the fourth quarter at WMU:
"They didn't block him (on one or two of those plays). I'm not sure what protection they were in, but they did not pick him up. Mitch does a great job, and he's pretty good unblocked. You'd better make that play, if you're Mitch."
On Janssen Patton:
"To me, the only corner I've seen (this year) that I didn't want to throw on was the kid at Ohio State (Chris Gamble). I wasn't going to allow a great player to hurt us. Janssen hurt Western Michigan on Saturday. Janssen's a great athlete. He can leap, has good hands -- I've used him on offense, and we have a package for him on offense. And, he's returning kicks, and we're out of the basement (in the MAC stats) in that area. He's had some guys blocking for him, but he'll make guys miss. It's all about the dudes."
On Eastern Michigan:
"Eastern's struggling a bit right now. The Rockets blew them out (Saturday). But, I watched their defense on film, and they're still playing hard. They're scrappy, and we've got to take care of the ball against them.
"Their offense is struggling a bit, too, but they've got a good runningback (junior Anthony Sherrell), who I believe is second or third in the MAC (in rushing). Their quarterback (Chinedu Okoro) is good, too. He's just struggling a little bit throwing the ball right now, and part of that has to do with protection. Our defense has to contain them. We just can't let them get juiced up.
"Playing at home, they'll be fired up at the start of the game, and we will have to be ready to play. They came out and scored (on their first offensive drive) at Toledo. Our seniors have done a good job of keeping the guys focused, and they'll have us focused and ready to go."
On EMU playing loose and throwing 'everything but the kitchen sink' at the Falcons:
"They have got nothing to lose. They're 1-6 and struggling a little. But, they'll be fired up. 'Here comes Bowling Green; they're almost in the Top 25, and we can upset them.' I've been on the other end of that . I was on the other end of that a lot (as an assistant coach) at Northwestern. We will need to be focused and ready to play at Eastern Saturday."
