BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Ali Shingler is the Bowling Green State University Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Shingler, a redshirt sophomore on the BGSU women's soccer team, helped the Falcons to a pair of road wins over the teams that finished first and second in last year's Mid-American Conference standings
Shingler, a native of Grove City, Ohio (Grove City HS), posted her second shutout, both of the season and of her career, as the Falcons picked up a 2-0 victory at Ball State Friday (Oct. 3). She made six saves, including several from point-blank range, to earn her first-ever MAC shutout and first road shutout. The win was the Falcons' first-ever victory in Muncie.
Then, Shingler made five saves as the Falcons picked up their first-ever win over Miami, 3-2, on Sunday (Oct. 5). BGSU came back from 2-0 down with less than 25 minutes left to get the win, the Falcons' first in nine series meetings with the RedHawks.
With the wins, BGSU extended its current MAC road unbeaten streak to a school- and MAC-record eight matches. BG's last MAC regular-season road loss came at BSU on the final day of the 2001 season.
Shingler has recorded all 12 decisions for the Falcons (5-6-1, 3-2-1 MAC) this year, and has lowered her goals-against average to 1.99. She has made a total of 58 saves.
Shingler, a biology major, maintains a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average through her first two years at BGSU.
The Falcons continue a season-long five-match winning streak with matches at Western Michigan (Oct. 10) and Northern Illinois (Oct. 12) this weekend. BGSU's next home contest is Friday, Oct. 17, vs. Buffalo.
