Bowling Green Takes to the Road for Next Five Games
Fresh off a six-game homestand at the BGSU Ice Arena, the Falcons take to the road for a five-game road trip, beginning with a two-game series at Lake Superior (Nov. 14-15). BGSU plays the Lakers twice this weekend at Taffy Abel Arena with both face-offs scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST. Saturday's game will not be broadcasted on 88.1 FM, WBGU.
BGSU vs. Lake Superior
The Falcons hold a 65-52-5 series lead dating back to Dec. 12, 1970 (4-3 LSSU win) against the Lakers. BGSU is 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings despite splitting a two-game series last year in Sault Ste. Marie. The Falcons are 37-18-3 vs. LSSU at home, but are just 26-29-2 on the road against the Lakers.
Lake Superior Lakers
Lake Superior enters the weekend 12th out of 12 teams in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. However, the Lakers are coming off their first league road victory since Dec. 9, 2000, with their 4-1 win at Nebraska-Omaha last Saturday. FR forward Trent Campbell had three points (goal, two assists) last weekend against the Mavericks.
Falcon Penalty Kill Ranked 4th in Nation
The BGSU penalty kill is ranked fourth in the nation and leads the CCHA with its .922 pct. (47-of-51). For the fourth-straight game the Falcons held their opponent scoreless on the power play, killing off eight power plays by Niagara on Nov. 7. BGSU has now killed off 29-straight power plays over its last four-plus games.
More Special Teams for BGSU
BGSU netted a power-play goal in its fourth-straight game by finishing 1-for-7 vs. Niagara. The Falcons are now 3-0-2 when scoring a PPG this season and have an overall power-play pct. of .148 (8-for-54).
Jonathan Sigalet Breaks Into Scoring Column
FR Jonathan Sigalet became the 11th different Falcon and fourth defenseman to score a goal this season by netting his first collegiate goal vs. Niagara. Sigalet's goal also was BGSU's first SHG of the season. Sigalet currently has 1-4--5 in nine games with all four assists coming on the power play.
More Firsts for Falcons...
SO defenseman Jon Sitko registered his first point of the season with an assist on Jonathan Sigalet's SHG. Meanwhile, FR forward Nick Lang from Livonia, Mich., played in his first game of the season and finished plus-1 on the fourth line.
Four of a Kind For Falcons
Friday's four goals vs. Niagara marked the third-straight game the Falcons have netted four goals. The last time BGSU had three-straight games with four or more goals was Nov. 4-19, 2000.
Wires Improves Point Streak to Five Games
SR Mark Wires improved his current point streak to five games, tying a career-high, with a goal vs. Niagara on Nov. 7. The senior forward has tallied 4-2--6 during that span and leads the team with seven overall points.
