FINDLAY, Ohio - Members of the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team recently donated their time to a worthy cause. Just two days after seeing the 2003 season come to an end, Falcon student-athletes travelled to Central Middle School in Findlay, Ohio, Tuesday (Nov. 11) to participate in National Young Readers Day.
The Falcons of head coach Andy Richards read to the students, talked about why reading is important, and answered a variety of questions.
"The soccer team members were great role models for our students," said Central Middle School Literacy Intervention Specialist. "The kids truly enjoyed having the team in their classroom. They were also very interested in learning about their majors.
"After hearing the student-athletes read, many of the children checked out those same books to read on their own free time. I have had so many compliments on the BGSU women's soccer players' positive attitudes toward reading. Our students really looked up to the BG student-athletes as role models for the type of person they would like to become someday."
