Falcons Roll Past Miami In Four

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team put a stop to their four game losing streak, with a four-set victory over the Miami RedHawks Friday night at Anderson Arena (30-24, 20-30, 31-29, 30-17). Junior Taylor Twite played a large part in the victory with 26 kills, to lead the team.
In game one BGSU raced out to an early 10-6 lead, following an ace by junior Melissa Mohr. The Falcons continued to roll along, extending their lead to 18-12 after a Miami attack error. The RedHawks put together a 7-3 run to get within three at 22-19, before kills by senior Nadia Bedricky and Twite extended the lead back to six, at 25-19. BGSU won game one 30-24.
The Brown & Orange came out flat to open game two, falling behind 11-23. The Falcons mounted a comeback with an 8-3 run to close the gap to 19-26, before back-to-back Miami kills put the match out of reach and gave Miami a 30-20 game two victory.
Game three, saw several large runs put together by both teams. For example, both teams exchanged 6-1 runs to start game three, knotting the score at 7-7. BGSU continued their 6-1 run with a 9-6 run to take a 16-13 lead. Miami answered back with a 7-1 run to take a 20-17 lead, forcing a Bowling Green timeout. The Falcons used the timeout well, coming out with a 7-2 run to take a 24-22 lead, before Miami took the lead back at 29-27 with a run of their own. Miami had a chance to win game three on the very next point, slamming a ball towards freshman Chrissy Gothke, who all in one motion, dug the ball out, as well as placed the ball in the perfect spot on the other side of the net for a BG point. BGSU scored the next three points to close out a 4-0 run and win game three 31-29.
With game four tied at 8-8, Bowling Green put together a 7-1 run to take a 15-9 lead. The BGSU rally continued as they took a 24-14 lead after a Bedricky kill. The Falcons went to Twite to close out game three, as she crushed home kill number 26 on the night, to captured game four 30-17.
For the match Twite had 26 kills, 10 kills in game three alone, as well as two solo blocks and two block-assists. She also had a team-high .489 hitting percentage.
Junior Melissa Mohr was the other Falcon with double-digit kills, with 10. She also led the team in blocks with one solo and five assists.
Junior Amber Mareski had 49 assists on the night to go along with five digs and three kills. She also had a solo block and three block-assists.
The Falcons return to action tomorrow night (Nov. 8) when they host Ball State at Anderson Arena. The match is set for 7:00 p.m.
