BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Jordan Sigalet is the Bowling Green State University Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Sigalet, a junior on the BGSU hockey team, made a plethora of saves as the Falcons played two tight games against the defending league champions.
Sigalet made a total of 85 saves, just three off the school record for a two-game series, in the Falcons' home set with Ferris State. The Surrey, British Columbia, native made 43 stops in Friday's (Dec. 5) narrow 2-1 loss to the defending Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season champions. In that game, Sigalet faced 23 Bulldog shots in the second period, stopping all 23.
Saturday (Dec. 6), Sigalet earned Perani Cup first-star honors by stopping 42 shots, the second night in a row he had 40-plus saves, as the Falcons battled to a 3-3 overtime tie with the Bulldogs.
In the FSU series, Sigalet led a Falcon penalty-kill that shut out the Bulldogs on 13 attempts, including eight in Saturday's contest. He now has notched 40 or more saves in a game on 11 occasions.
Sigalet has minded the net in seven overtime games this season, allowing just one goal in 39:49 minutes of overtime. His save pct. in those seven overtime periods is .963 (26-of-27). In the seven overtime games that BGSU has played in this year, it has been outshot 26-10 but lost just once.
Sigalet is the only goalie in the nation to have played more than 1,000 minutes this season (1047:42). He ranks 30th in the country with a goals-against average of 2.63, and is 25th in the nation in save pct. (.915).
Sigalet, majoring in two-dimensional studies, currently maintains a 3.01 cumulative grade point average.
The Falcons end a four-game homestand by hosting its I-75 neighbor to the south, the University of Findlay, Friday (Dec. 12). Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. BGSU then will have the next three weeks off before travelling to Minnesota-Duluth (Jan. 2-3, 2004) in a rematch of the 1984 Division I National Championship game won by BGSU, 5-4, in four overtimes.
NOTE: The Falcon Scholar-Athlete of the Week page will take a break for final exams and the holiday schedule, and will resume in early January, 2004
