Brown Wins Day Two Scrimmage

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team completed day two of the annual Orange and Brown scrimmage, with the Brown squad completing the two-day sweep of the Orange squad, 163.250-162.800 Saturday afternoon inside the Eppler Complex. Brown also claimed victory on Friday night 163.600-161.600.
On the beam freshman Jillian Stranges surpassed all other competitors with a 9.750 to lead the Brown squad. Senior co-captain Melissa Popovich scored a 9.700 on the beam to lead all Orange competitors.
Junior Kari Elste posted a 9.750 on the uneven bars and was followed by Popovich's 9.725 for Orange. Sophomore Jessica Bradley (9.700) and Stranges (9.650) were tops for the Brown squad.
Popovich, Jessica McArthur and Erin McCollam all scored 9.650's on the vault to lead all Falcons.
In the afternoon's final event, Popovich completed a 9.850 and sophomore Jessica Guyer posted a 9.775 to lead the Orange squad on the floor exercise. Pia Sjovall scored a 9.775 on the floor for the best Brown score.
The Falcons return to action on January 14, when they host Eastern Michigan at 7:00 p.m. inside the Eppler Complex.
