BGSU Defeats Cleveland State On the Road, 9-3

Euclid, Ohio - Bowling Green overcame an early 1-0 deficit at Cleveland State with five runs in the top of the third inning and went on to post a 9-3 victory over the Vikings at Memorial Field #1 in Euclid, Ohio, on Wednesday afternoon.
Center fielder David Barkholz began the third inning with a single and scored from second base on a single by Nolan Reimold, who later scored from third base via a balk by CSU pitcher Mike Ochwat. With BGSU holding a 2-0 lead, Jeff Warnock laid down a suicide squeeze bunt with Kelly Hunt at third base. Hunt scored for a 3-0 Falcon lead. Nate Henschen's solo home run and Spencer Schmitz' RBI-double gave the visitors the four run lead, 5-1, before the end of the frame.
The Falcons added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning, two coming off of a home run by Hunt to right field. It was his third home run of the season. Reimold singled home the third run of the inning for an 8-1 BGSU lead.
CSU plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Falcons' lead to 8-3 before BGSU added its final run of the game in the top of the fifth inning off of a Dash Yost score.
Freshman Tyler Johnson started the game on the mound for the Falcons and was scheduled to pitch the first three innings. Johnson (1-0) gave up just one unearned run and four hits in his three innings of work to pick up his first collegiate victory. Six different Falcons pitched the final six innings of the game.
BGSU held a 13-9 advantage in hits. CSU committed five errors in the game, compared to BGSU's two. Hunt finished 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI, Reimold was 2-for-4 with two scores and two RBI, and Warnock was 3-for-4 at the plate.
The Falcons improved to 6-11 overall and continues its week of non-conference competition with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 4, vs. Oakland at 12 noon at Warren Steller Field. The two teams meet for another doubleheader on Sunday, April 5, at 12 noon in Rochester Hills, Mich.
