Boise, Idaho - The Bowling Green State University volleyball squad captured its first victory of the season with a 3-2 win over Portland on Saturday afternoon. Senior Samantha Rennau and junior Taylor Twite led the way, both setting new career-highs in kills.
Rennau posted 20 kills in the match versus Portland, eclipsing last year's career-high of nine kills against IPFW. The senior hitter also posted a .371 hitting percentage to go along with six digs.
Twite is making a habit out of establishing new career-highs. Just last night she posted a 14 kill performance against Boise State to set a new personal-best. That personal record lasted all of one game, after her 22-kill performance this afternoon.
The Falcons opened the match with a 30-23 first set win, but dropped set number two, 17-30. The two teams split the next two sets and went to a fifth decisive set, with the Falcons prevailing 15-13.
Senior Susie Norris compiled her second double-double in as many matches with a 15 kill 12 dig performance. Norris now needs 25 kills to reach the 1,000-kill milestone.
Junior Melissa Mohr had an all-around solid performance with nine kills, seven digs and six block-assists. The six block-assists are a new career-high for Mohr.
The Falcons will conclude their trip to Boise with a match set for Saturday at 7:00 p.m. versus Utah Valley State.
