Falcons Host Michigan State This Weekend
Bowling Green hosts Michigan State University for a key two-game series at the BGSU Ice Arena this weekend (Jan. 16-17). The Falcons have moved to within one point of Nebraska-Omaha and two points of Lake Superior with 14 games left in the season. Half of those games will be on BGSU's home ice.
BGSU vs. Michigan State
The Falcons trail the all-time series 23-56-8 and are 13-19-5 at home against the Spartans. MSU is 8-1-1 in its last 10 games against the Falcons. However, three of those games have gone to overtime and six have been decided by two goals or less. MSU is 15-2-3 in its last 20 meetings with the Falcons. The teams split the 2002-03 series as BGSU won game one, 3-2 in overtime on Nov. 22, 2002, while MSU picked up a 6-3 win in the second meeting on Feb. 8, 2003. Both contests were played at the BGSU Ice Arena.
Michigan State Spartans
MSU has dropped two of its last four games and have played just seven games away from their home ice, Munn Ice Arena, this season. The Spartans are 4-3-0 away from East Lansing and 8-8-1 at home. MSU is paced by junior forward Jim Slater who leads the CCHA and is second in the nation in total points with 31 (13g, 18a). The two goalies, junior Matt Migliaccio and freshman Dominic Vicari, have split time amongst each other. Migliaccio has a 6-4-1 record (3.04 gaa., .905 save pct.) and Vicari has a 6-7-0 record (2.23 gaa., .919 save pct.). The Spartans are coached by Rick Comley who is in his second season at MSU and was the coach at Northern Michigan for 28 years prior.
Overtime, Comeback Win Snaps Skids
The Jan. 9, 5-4 overtime victory over Notre Dame snapped an 0-7-3 mark for BGSU when its opponent scores first and an 0-9-1 record when trailing after two periods this season.
Casual Affair, No Ties Necessary
The Falcons captured its first overtime game of the season Jan. 9 with its 5-4 win over Notre Dame. With the win, BGSU improved to 1-1-6 in overtime games this season. The six ties have tied a BGSU record for a season while the eight overall overtime games is three away from the school record of 11 set in 1991-92.
