Falcons Capture BGSU Women's Open Title

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University track and field team used nine first-place finishes on Friday night to place first in the BGSU Women's Open with 200 points. Cincinnati placed second with a final score of 170, while Toledo, 118 and IPFW, 44 placed third and fourth respectively.
With a time of 7.66 in the 60-meter dash, junior Valerie Holland established a new BGSU school record in the event. Holland also placed third in the 200-meters with a time of 25.76, as well as helped the 4 x 400-relay team capture first-place with a 3:57.89.
Senior Alicia Taylor led all Falcons with three first-place finishes with times of 8.63 in the 60-meter hurdles and 25.31 in the 200-meter dash. Taylor was also a member of the 4 x 400-relay squad that placed first.
Several freshmen had impressive showings as well. Kim Settle set a personal-best time in the 800-meters with a 2:22.21. Erica Wilson continued her dominance in the high jump with a mark a 1.63 meters to capture first-place and Veronica Vance took home top honors in the triple jump with a distance of 12.03.
Other top finishers included senior Melissa Krueger's 5:03.04 in the one-mile run and Marquita McGowan's 1:37.64 in the 600-meters.
The Falcons return to action next Friday night when they host the BGSU Triangular at the Perry Field House. The meet is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
