BGSU vs. Windsor
BGSU ends its preseason on Friday, October 15, when its hosts the University of Windsor in an exhibition game at the BGSU Ice Arena (7:05 p.m.). The Falcons defeated the Lancers last season in Bowling Green by the score of 9-2. In that game, three different Falcons scored two goals, including JR Ryan Barnett and JR Bryan Dobek.
Windsor Lancers
Windsor has dropped five games against NCAA Division I competition so far this season. Three of those games have been against 2004 NCAA participants, including Michigan (12-1), Miami (4-1), and defending national champion Denver (6-0). They have also played Colorado College (6-1) and Air Force (3-2 OT). The Lancers conclude their non-conference schedule against Princeton and Harvard next week.
Recent Bowling Green Games...
Team Orange defeated Team White, 5-4, in overtime last Saturday in BGSU's "Falcon Face-Off" intraquad game. FR Derek Whitmore scored at 3:10 of OT to give Team Orange the win. Two of the points credited to Team White came in a skills competition during the intermission. JR Brett Pilkington, the top returning scorer from a year ago for the Falcons, had a goal and an assist for Team Orange. Pilkington, who registered 10-11--21 last season, assisted on the first goal and netted the second one in the first period.
Fantastic Freshmen
BGSU's incoming freshmen class (six forwards, two defensemen) was ranked the 14th best freshmen class by INCH.com this preseason. The group lived up to their billing last week as they had a hand in five of the seven goals scored in the team's intrasquad game. Defenseman Michael Hodgson had two assists, while classmates John Mazzei, Derek Whitmore (GWG), and Alex Foster netted goals. Mazzei also had a helper.
Hodgson & Matsumoto Recognized
Freshmen Michael Hodgson and Jonathan Matsumoto were recognized by INCH.com among the top incoming rookies at their positions earlier this Fall. Hodgson (2004 United States Hockey League Defenseman of the Year) was ranked the 10th best rookie defenseman in the NCAA and Matsumoto (2004 Central Junior Hockey League Rookie of the Year) was ranked as the 13th best rookie forward.
