CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University senior Josh Almanson has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Almanson, a member of the men's basketball team, helped the Falcons to a 2-0 record last week.
Almanson, a native of Bowling Green, Ohio (Bowling Green H.S.), averaged 19.5 points and 5.5 rebounds on the week. He shot .583 from the field (14-of-24) and .800 from the free-throw line (8-of-10), and made three of his seven three-point FG attempts (.429) in the two games.
The forward had a game-high 17 points in the Falcons' 63-51 win over UIC, a team that had lost by one point to #3 Georgia Tech two nights earlier. Almanson went 7-for-8 from the floor and had five rebounds in that win. Four days later, he again had game scoring honors, with 22 points in BG's 81-65 win over Bradley. Almanson also had six rebounds, including four at the offensive end, in that win.
Almanson, an integrated social studies major, maintains a 3.14 cumulative grade-point average.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the previous week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
The Falcons, 2-1 on the young season, play at Detroit Saturday (Dec. 4) at 2:05 p.m., before returning home for a Wednesday (Dec. 8) home game vs. Bluffton.
