MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Quoting Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Curt Miller after the Falcons' 66-51 win at Robert Morris University Monday morning...
"It was a great second-half performance. We didn't make a lot of X's and O's types of changes at halftime. We knew we had been outrebounded in the first half, and turned the ball over carelessly. And, a lot of hustle plays, I felt we were out-hustled in the first half. But, what a second half. We held them scoreless for over nine minutes in the second half. They have a lot of great individual players, but we really buckled down defensively and had a great second half. This is a big win, heading into the Christmas break."
"We couldn't make a 'three,' and, because of that, they packed it in. So, we were trying to figure out ways to keep getting the ball inside. We did a nice job of getting the ball inside to our guards. We got their point guard (DeSheyna Perry) in foul trouble, which is a story in itself. I think it was a big key of the game that we got her in foul trouble."
(On RMU's Sugiery Monsac, who is leading the nation in rebounding and ranks in the top 10 in scoring)
"She is a great player. I think we did as well as we could on her, as it took her 16 shots to get her 15 points. I like that percentage. She is a beast on the boards, and we did a better job on her in the second half, as she got tired -- she played all 40 minutes in the game. Overall, it was a good performance to keep her to 10 rebounds. We contained her as much as we could; she is just a great player."
(On the point production from freshman Kate Achter and sophomores Liz Honegger and Ali Mann)
"Those were the three people that we posted up the most in the game. On a day when the `threes' are not going, those people are who we were posting up, and trying to get the ball. Some nights, we run a lot of plays for Carin (Horne) or Casey (McDowell), but today, a lot of plays were run for those three, and they got some good touches inside. Balance has always been a key to this team, and we're spreading the ball around."
"Ten games into the season, with nine of them away from Anderson Arena, I am excited that we are 6-4, especially with two of (the losses) to national-caliber teams. Fans, we're coming home, and we will be excited to get back to Anderson for the Bucknell game (on Dec. 30)."
