The Opening Tip
The Falcons are in their eighth season under head coach Dan Dakich. Dakich is second all-time at BGSU in winning percentage (.573) and fifth all-time in wins with a 122-91 record. The Falcons boast a six-game winning streak, their longest since the 2002-03 season when they also posted a six-game streak.
BGSU is 27-3 when shooting over 50% in a game since the 2000-01 season. They have made more than half of their shots in five straight games and are ranked fifth in the country shooting 54.1% from the field this season.
BGSU is rated #57 in the latest RPI. BGSU is rated #47 in the country in the Jeff Sagarin Basketball Ratings. The MAC is the 10th highest rated conference in the country according to Sagarin.
BGSU is 23-1 since the 2000-01 season when holding an opponent to 59 points or less. BGSU is the top defensive team in the MAC allowing opponents just 61.0 points per game on 39.7% shooting from the field. The Falcons also lead the league in field goal percentage at 54.1% and assists (18.6) and are second in three-point field goal percentage hitting 41.5 % of their long distance shots and in three-point defense at 27.2%.
Senior Josh Almanson leads the MAC averaging 18.9 points and is second in field goal percentage (64.6%). He has scored in double figures in seven straight games this year, the longest such streak of his career. In his last three games, he has averaged 22 points and made 26 of 32 field goal attempts (81.3%).
Senior John Reimold is sixth in the MAC averaging 16.9 points, and ranks third in the league in field goal percentage (80.0%) and first in three-point field goal percentage (52.6%). He needs 39 points to become the 33rd player in BGSU history to score 1,000 points or more.
Junior Steven Wright is averaging 13.6 points and is sixth in the league in field goal percentage making 52.2% of his shots.
Freshman Scott Vandermeer is sixth in the league in blocked shots at 1.14 per game. He has averaged five points in the last three games.
Junior John Floyd is second in the league in assists averaging six assists per game. He played his freshman year at Oakland and averaged 6.4 points and 2.3 assists and started 12 games. He made 36.1% of his three-point field goal attempts.
About Oakland
Oakland Coach Greg Kampe, who is in his 21st year of guiding the Golden Grizzlies, is a 1978 graduate of BGSU with a bachelor's degree in business and journalism. He lettered in both football (1975-77) and basketball (1976-78) for the Falcons.
Kampe personally combined excellence as an athlete and in the classroom in college. He is the only athlete in MAC history to earn first team all-Academic honors in both football and basketball. He earned dean's list honors with a 3.40 grade point average at BGSU, and received the President's Award as an outstanding senior student.
Oakland is coming off an 81-52 loss at Akron on Monday night. The Golden Grizzlies will be playing just its third home game of the season against the Falcons. They also have played road games at Xavier, Illinois, Texas A & M, Kansas State, Missouri, and Saint Louis.
They also lost to Marquette and defeated North Dakota State at home.
Senior forward Rawle Marshall leads OU averaging 16.3 points, while senior forward Cortney Scott is averaging 15.4 per contest.
