BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Kevin Bieksa is the Bowling Green State University Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Bieksa, a senior on the BGSU hockey team, helped the Falcons to a three-point weekend on the road vs. Nebraska-Omaha.
Bieksa, a native of Grimsby, Ontario (Burlington/OPJHL), had an assist each night as the Falcons battled to a 3-3 tie with the Mavericks on Friday (Feb. 6) and came back with a 3-1 win the next night.
Bieksa, an assistant captain, picked up an assist on Mike Falk's second goal in Friday's game, coming midway through the third period. On Saturday, Bieksa had a helper on Mark Wires' power-play goal that turned out to be the game winner.
On the season, Bieksa is fourth on the Falcons in scoring with 16 points. He has five goals and 11 assists, tying for second on the team in the latter category.
Bieksa, a finance major, currently maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.44.
The Falcons are 8-14-7 overall and 6-11-4 in the CCHA, heading into a home weekend series vs. Lake Superior Friday and Saturday (Feb. 13-14). BGSU has gone 3-2-1 over the last six games (four on the road). BGSU will honor the 1984 NCAA Championship team during the first intermission of Friday's game vs. the Lakers, and members of that team will hold an autograph session at 6:00 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.
