Oxford, Ohio - Bowling Green State University recorded its highest finish at the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in 11 years by finishing third at the 2004 MAC Meet in Oxford, Ohio. The Falcons finished with 405 team points, one-half point ahead of Ball State (405.5) and behind only Miami (664) and Ohio (547).
The Falcons had not finished higher than sixth place in the MAC Championships over the past nine years, while finishing fourth in 1994 and second in 1993.
Under the guidance of second-year coach Keri Buff, who was the 2003 MAC Coach of the Year, the Falcons recorded 12 top-eight finishes in individual events, as well as its first individual MAC Champion since 1996.
BGSU improved throughout the entire weekend, sitting in sixth place after day one and in fifth place after day two of the meet, which was held in Miami University's Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
Senior co-captain Sarah Agnew captured the individual medal in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday with a time of 2:18.86, just off of her personal-best set earlier this year (2:18.61). In the process, Agnew became the first Falcon to win a MAC Championship since Cheryl Patteson won both the 200 medley and 400 medley in 1996.
For her efforts, Agnew became just the fourth different Falcon ever to garner First-Team All-MAC honors. The MAC started first-team, second-team honors in 1996.
Junior Erin Dilkes finished seventh in the 200 breast with a time of 2:22.21. Other top finishes from the final day of the 2004 MAC Championships included sophomore Kara Ohngren in the 1,650 free (sixth, 17:09.28), freshman Caroline Keating in the 1,650 free (ninth, 17:16.53), freshman Brit O'Connor in the 200 backstroke (sixth, 2:05.67), sophomore Stephanie Buckner in the 100 free (eighth, 52.61), and sophomore Dana Schultz in the 200 butterfly (fourth, 2:03.62).
